The best surf spots in Australia

It’s no secret that Australia is home to picture perfect beaches and some of the world’s best waves. It is truly a surfer’s paradise. But with 60,000 km of coastline and hundreds of surf spots to choose from, where do you begin?

For us it’s simple: Byron Bay is hard to beat. Located on Australia’s east coast, it experiences a mellow climate and ideal surfing conditions all year round. Its pristine sandy beaches and turquoise ocean has been enchanting surfers and hippies for decades. And don’t be put off by the current winter weather in Byron Bay! Winter is actually still a great time to grab your surf board and take to the waves, as the rainfall is lower than in the summer months and there is still plenty of sunshine. The crowds of tourists also start to thin out, giving you much more space and freedom on the waves.

But let’s not forget to give credit to the other spectacular surf spots in Australia. In Sydney, there is of course the iconic Bondi Beach, where Lets Go Surfing are the only official and fully licensed surf school. After surfing, there’s also plenty of things to see and do in this unique beach side suburb, from trendy markets to chilled out bars and quirky independent shops.

For somewhere a little quieter, try Maroubra. It’s just a 15 minute drive from Bondi Beach, and a spot that the crowds haven’t quite discovered yet. Maroubra is also a national surfing reserve!

Here’s one final piece of advice for those flying to any of these surf spots from an airport in Australia or New Zealand: be sure to check out Flyparks to find a cheap deal when parking your car at the airport! With Flyparks, you can compare offers at all major airports, including Byron/Ballina Airport
